Philadelphia, PA- Since Facebook opened its gates to more than college students in 2004, its mission to “make the world more open and connected” has done more harm than good for many. Some users have forgone their relationships and responsibilities, in order to Facebook. Parents have reached out to school counselors, corporate HR departments have sought work performance psychologists, and couples have turned to marriage counselors to help their spouses overcome social media addictive behavior. In fact, this past week Facebook Detoxing has been trending online as a top New Year's Resolutions for 2010.
Information Technology (IT) Consultant Nnamdi Osuagwu noticed the trend, while training his clients on social media. He even that he also had become emotionally attached to social media services. He wrote a novelized version of this phenomena and cited the New York Daily News's investigation of Facebook Addiction, to show parallels between chemical and social networking addictions in his book, Facebook Addiction.
"I used real-life examples of Facebook Addiction gone wrong from The Daily News to shed light on a serious issue which impacts today's culture," Osuagwu states.
